A Potter's Heart

I've embarked on a book project with a potter. What I didn't know was that the heart of a potter, was one of gold.

A bowl. The smallest pottery unit. What Eva Zeisel describes as the playful search for beauty. What Theaster Gates tributes his "miniature Versailles" in the south side of Chicago. And how the remarkable Bill Strickland will begin his story.

From clay to humanity. This is my intrigue with these individuals; these potters; these makers of useful things. The scale of clay. In Trinidad, we have deyas and we have jouvert. My friend, the potter, makes ajoupa — small houses of clay — amerindian for shelter.
