FITC Tokyo 2015 Titles

Japan is a critical source of inspiration and education for many designers. From their wabi sabi aesthetics to their manga stories to Tokyo nightlife. This recent title sequence for FITC 2015 is no exception. It was directed by Ash Thorpe (Prometheus, X-men First Class, the Amazing Spiderman 2) alongside a brilliant team of type designers and animators. Soundtrack by Pilotpriest.

...to encapsulate the city itself—distilled to graphic form. Aiming to contrast the harmonies of traditional Japanese culture against the backdrop and sensory overload of present-day Tokyo, we meticulously crafted elegant typographic forms to collide with abrasive, overstimulating glitch—giving way to a progressive journey where moments of extreme chaos fold into temporary tranquility.
